Cartilage Transfer Surgery
Cartilage transfer Surgery happens when a healthy cartilage is taken from a normal area of the knee and is transferred to the damaged area of the knee.
- Procedure
A Cartilage transfer surgical procedure is performed in the same way an arthroscopic knee surgery is done. The surgical procedure isdone in a matter of few hours anda patient might be asked to stay in the hospital for a day at the most. It is done under general anesthesia and very rarely do any complications arise from the procedure.
Hospital Stay and Expenses
The real recovery takes place at the end of the hospital stay. Rehabilitation following the cartilage transfer surgery can take anywhere around 6-9 months. Starting months are the most taxing in termsand most of the surgeons won’t permit any sort of competitive sports activities at least for 6 months after surgery. At the end of these 6 months a patient can start with a normal routine like the one pursued before the surgery.
